My wife and I recently made the decision to homeschool our two kids, ages 10 and 11, starting sometime after they finish their current school year. Notice I didn’t say they would start next fall as would be the tradition – that’s one of the intriguing things about homeschooling: you set whatever schedule works for you.
So why Homeschooling Notes? Why this website? Because frankly we really don’t know what we are getting into and we hope this website will not only be a way for us to share our experiences with others in our shoes but to also connect and learn from whoever happens to stop by. We will review books about homeschooling in addition to books and other resources related to the subjects being taught, post field trip reviews (from you too kids!) and attempt to cover all aspects of homeschooling.
I have set each of us up with an author account on here, including the kids, and I expect that will provide for a variety of different perspectives as we take this journey together.
There are a number of reason why people make the decision to homeschool their children. Probably the most popular reason right now is religion – public schools apparently don’t satisfy the needs of many religious parents. We have a more secular reason – quality of education. I think homeschooling will become more and more prevelant and I think the reason why will be the continued erosion of quality education at the K-12 level.
But that will have to be another post – we did not take this decision lightly and I’m sure Amy and I will both go into detail about our decision process in later posts.
Please subscribe and follow along on our homeschooling journey – it promises to be an interesting ride!
